Docklight Theatre Company Announces the opening of I Can Eat the Sun

 Docklight Theatre Company is proud to announce the casting and preparations for the Chicago premiere of I Can Eat the Sun at the Strawdog Theatre (3859 N. Broadway, Chicago) on August 1st for a three week run until the 17th. Shows will be performed Fridays at 8 PM, Saturdays at 8 and 10 PM and Sundays at 8 PM. Tickets cost $12 ($8 for students).  The cast features DAVID BLATT as Ryan, Michael Yates Crowley as John, Julia Arana as Cowgirl and JACK RUCKER as the Professor, combining talent from Chicago and New York City. Playwright Dale Worsley (Mabou Mines) says of Michael Yates Crowley?s work, ?...startling. Language gains new force.? I Can Eat the Sun premiered at the KCST Festival in New York City as a one-act play and has been expanded into a longer form for the Chicago premiere. Rob Handel of the O'Neill Playwright's Conference calls it ?frequently beautiful...particularly eloquent on the subjects of sex.?

 The play follows a troubled professor of Astrophysics and his three somewhat unlikely students. As the Professor toes the line between our reality and his own, the students struggle to figure out what to make of their relationships to him and to each other. John and Cowgirl, long-time friends, are forced to deal with the new force of Ryan who suddenly is thrown into the mix and threatens to upset the apparently cosmic balance John has created for himself. The students, like photons emanating from the sun, are repelled by nature from each other and from their source, yet still unavoidably drawn together.
